Downsizing
Downsizing without the overwhelm
Moving to a smaller place, or helping a parent make that move, means making hundreds of decisions about things that carry real memories. It is a lot to carry alone.
I help you plan for the next space first, then sort to fit it, so the decisions about what comes along, what goes to family, and what leaves get made one at a time, at a pace that feels manageable.
How downsizing works
Plan for the new space
We start with where you're going: how many rooms, how much closet and kitchen space. That tells us what will realistically fit before anything gets sorted.
Sort room by room
Keep, family, donate, sell, or let go. Working through one area at a time keeps the process from taking over your whole house at once.
Keepsakes and family items
Photos, heirlooms, and collections get handled with care. We decide what you'll keep, what you'd like to pass on, and how to make sure it reaches the right people.
Getting things out the door
Decisions only help once items actually leave. We make a plan for donations, items for family, and what's being sold or discarded, so the old home is ready when you are.
Support for seniors and their families
Downsizing is often a family project, with adult children helping a parent, sometimes from a distance. My social work background helps when emotions run high and different people want different things.
My job is to keep things moving, keep everyone informed, and make sure the person who is moving stays at the center of the decisions about their own belongings.
